July 28 – August 10, 2016
Course director: Dr. István Tarrosy, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science and international Studies, Faculty of Humanities, University of Pécs
Join our Pécs Debate Academy Summer School and receive up-to-date knowledge about one of the main political and sociological challenges of today’s European Union!
Do you have an opinion and would like to speak up for yourself? If you feel intention to express your thoughts, come and improve your debating skills with us learning to use the most effective content, style, speed, tone and volume!
Our unique Debate Academy Summer School will use a mixed methodology – you will learn about the migration crisis from experts of the field while you will also gain an opportunity to develop your speaking skills and learn to argue along the techniques of the British Parliamentary Debate style.
The Debate Academy Summer School will develop your critical thinking, your communication skills as well as your ability to analyze and understand the world around us. It will also give you the opportunity to make friends and have fun in a very welcoming international environment.
Migration has become a great issue of our age worldwide. Our Summer School will investigate the historical and current trends and policies in international migration in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe.
The Pecs Debate Academy – started in 2013 based on the 17-year experience of the International Culture Week in Pecs (ICWiP) – is a unique regional summer university initiative of its kind in Hungary, the very first debate event in the Transdanubian region, which offers 8 ECTS university credits for those who take an active part in the trainings, lectures, sessions and the final debate tournament.
This new Summer School will use a mixed methodology, building markedly on the British Parliamentary Debate (BPD) style. It will tackle issues of the ongoing migration crisis in an interpolar context, and address Europe in a changing global context, but from a “Visegrad perspective”. This, however, will not limit participation at all, as we encourage all interested students from different parts of Europe and beyond to come to Pécs at the end of July. During the Summer School you will learn to understand the reasons of migrations as well as the various approaches and reactions to it by the different EU countries.
Our Summer School will give you an opportunity to do more than just study!
We pay special attention to providing the participants with a very enjoyable and unforgettable stay. Our social programs include concerts, trip to the countryside, interactive events, karaoke party, sport contests, the discovery of the best pubs in town and the best intercultural party, the Country Show. Experience the vibe!
