Debate Academy course definitions – Dare to Debate!
Team building Team building The very first event of the Debate Summer Academy is an ice breaking session in the form of games with the involvement of our invited trainers.
Debate skills I-II-III. The debate trainers introduce different debate methods, and explain in detail the British Parliamentary Debating style.
Debate group Participants will be organized into 5 debate groups. The debate group is a series of meetings emphasizing interaction and exchange of information, practising debating among smaller groups of participants. The debate trainer assistant ensures direct professional support during the summer school in the groups.
Final debate tournament It is the final duty of each debate group; a session where the participants compete their argumentations related the determined topic. This is the most vivid debate event of the summer school, worth to participate even as listener! Please take into account, that if you dont participate int he final debate tournament, then your certificate will be issued without the ECTS credits. In 2013 the topic of the final tournament was: THW send female diplomats to countries that don’t respect female rights…
Speeches Each speech section takes about 2 hours. Each speech is supposed to be 20 minutes long, which is followed by a 30-40 minutes long debate section. The section moderator is in charge of proper time management, which shall offer sufficient time for interaction.
Catalogue Essential document for issuing the certificates. Participants can only earn the 8 ECTS credit points if they participate in at least 90% of the lectures, field trips and debate events. In order to control it we print lecture and debate group catalogues, which needs to be signed. At the end of the summer school, the conference manager administers the signed catalogues, consults with the debate trainers and prepares the Debate Summer Academy certificates for signing and sealing. Whoever does not reach for some reason the 90% of participation, can obtain a simplified certificate without ECTS points.
