Balkans: Re-loaded

The theme of ICWiP2010 is Balkans: Re-loaded, which stems from the concept of the original European Capital of Culture application of the city of Pécs. The geopolitical area of the Balkans is unique and at the same time very multicultural.

In 2010 Pécs may become the first European Capital of Culture to open a gateway to the rich multiculturalism of the Balkans, including its Islamic heritage. During the conference and festival we will be discussing what a “Balkans identity” is or whether it even exists. How does today's youth reflect the national identities in relation to a possible “Balkans identity”? How does the youth view the future of the area?

The formation process of the Balkan nations is important from the viewpoint of democracy. Keeping this in mind we have invited lecturers also from other counties and continents to share their views and experiences on the democracy development in practice.

There will also be workshops connected to lectures of the conference. Workshops will concentrate on practical skills such as grant-writing, multilateral project management and modern communication methods.

The language of the conference is English. Ask your university directions how to earn credits by taking part in ICWiP, writing an essay about the lectures and taking part in the workshops. ICWiP2010 is a great opportunity for students from countries of the reigns of the Balkans as well as other countries to get acquainted with and discuss Balkan-related issues!

The Balkans will be also brought forth via music, theatre and movies. There will be traditional Balkan music as well as visual art pieces from the Balkans area. Participants of the festival will have a possibility to get to know and work out “Balkan multiculturalism” via different activities. We arrange plenty of entertainment activities in “the Balkan spirit” for relaxation and enjoyment of the participants.

To answer today's global needs, ICWiP aims to unite the youth of different countries of the world in order to increase tolerance, multiculturalism and international co-operation. Our goal is to advance the readiness of the youth to answer the global needs of the future. This we do by offering a chance to participate in ICWiP and all the workshops, get-togethers, presentations and activities included in the culture week. What could be more fun than to learn, play, act, be entertained and spend time in this intercultural environment? We want to give you an opportunity to take part in this wonderful, dynamic, educational event with other youngsters from different countries.
