in a tolerant and co-operative international community.
The motto of this year was motivated by the prime importance that young people understand and value the heritage of their ancestors to be able to better express themselves, find their places and roles in our ever globalising world. In 2006, ICWIP will offer the opportunity to discover cultural diversity and develop personal skills and attitudes to realise innovative activities and practice intercultural dialogue.
During the 10th Anniversary event, we will deal with the following 8 sub-themes:
1. Cultural heritage and artistic innovation
We would like to explore the importance of preserving the national culture and heritage while focusing on the need for innovation in the changing life.
2. “Face your history – Turn to the future!”
Our world is full of tension because of historical and political offences and, consequently, prejudices. For the peaceful future, young people must be aware of the historical background of nations, and handle relationships with respect and openness.
3. European Capitals of Culture: Tool for Intercultural Co-operation

4. Identity in Crisis? Global vs. local
The question of identity has become a hot issue within the world of integration, and globalising world. This sub-topic aims at discovering the characteristics of the modern senses of identity in global and local context.
5. Inter-religious dialogue among young people
Just like history, religions are claimed to divide nations: religious oppositions cause tremendous amount of disasters. But what is the role of religion in our life? How can we see our heritage leading us on the path of peace?
6. Innovations for a more sustainable planet
Environmental protection is something that many people talk about, but few can achieve real results. Experts coordinating this thematic group will come up with easy methods to realise sustainability in our own life, and they will facilitate young people to come up with own ideas.
7. Connect youth initiatives!
8. “Mediating culture” – Opportunities for student media
Student communities have an important role in the life of universities and cities. By the media that are managed by these young people, they can bring issues into the spotlight which interest them and are worthy to explore: these efforts have formulating power over the thinking of students and their approaches.
We will use a variety of methods during the summer school such as teambuilding games, plenary meetings, workshops, presentations, debates, and roundtable discussions. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from internationaly acknowledged experts and exchange ideas, opinions, and acquire or develop practical skills for the betterment of future international co-operations realized on their own.
One set of cultural activities is organised only for the participants, which are aimed to introduce the values and cultural traditions of different nations. Most notable traditional events of this kind are the Country Show, country-specific and thematic parties. They are all designed to encourage direct personal involvement and active participation. City tours, trips and excursions in the countryside will provide glimpses on the historic places and cultural heritage of Pécs and its region. This year, we plan to enrich these events with folk performances and traditional handicraft activities. In addition, an ICWiP Soccer Cup and other sports competitions will represent further added values. An “International NGO Fair” and "EVS Fair" are planned to offer all the representatives and youth associations an event to exchange information and formulate joint projects for the coming years.
The other set of cultural events is a programme-series open for the participants and the citizens and visitors of Pécs and the region at the same time. We plan concerts, exhibitions and theatrical performances which will be performed by students and groups from abroad, and by famous world music bands from
