Abstract

Dayton Peace Accords and regional security

The text of documents known as the Dayton Peace Accords was initialed in Wright- Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, USA on November 21st, 1995 and signed in Paris on 14th December 1995. Unlike several unsuccessful peace efforts, the Dayton Peace Accords ensured cease-fire  as well as peace settlement in Bosnia and Herzegovina.  In the period 1995 up to know in Bosnia and Herzegovina many reforms that are in line with the Dayton Peace Accords, have been conducted, being at the same time a precondition for BiH’s EU membership. Within the framework of regional security in the process of the country’s EU accession, the following two reforms are considered very important: police reform and the reform of BiH Armed Forces. The role of international community is still of great importance for postwar reconstruction of BiH community. The international community strongly influences the course of political events in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In order to built a modern European state, a new BiH political elite has to be affirmed. Only in that case BiH has a chance to become functional European country regardless its territorial and political order. BiH has to overcome recent war events and it has to use its comparative advantages in order to become a modern European state and partner and as such regional security stakeholder.
